A Toast to Summer: Beaujolais Wine Dinner at The Roxy
Back in 2008, I was inducted into the L'Ordre des Compagnons du Beaujolais, a society of wine enthusiasts, specifically those wines from the Beaujolais region in France, who enjoy educating everyone about its wonderful Gamay-based wines and sharing it in various venues while dining on fine cuisine.
The Compagnons motto is "vuidons les tonneaux", which translates as “let's empty the barrels” — a drinking cry that is reinforced at every reunion. The New York City Chapter and I are working to build up interest and membership on my side of the Hudson, in Jersey City, so I naturally partnered with one of my favorite restaurant teams here, The Roxy, the newer sibling of my Jersey City Heights fave, Corto. Together we’re toasting the summer with a salute to Beaujolais, because it’s the most chillable, gulpable, crushable red wines for summer (we’ll also have a white style or two, too!).
Join us at The Roxy on Thursday, July 17 for an unforgettable night of food, wine, and tradition, as we host the Ordre des Compagnons du Beaujolais for an evening rooted in French conviviality. I’ll be your Master of Ceremonies for the evening, joined by my fellow Campagnons — some of whom will be dressed in traditional costumes, and leading a induction ceremony (like mine, above). There will be music, toasts, storytelling — and lots of wine! Who’s ready to empty the barrels with us?

A multi-course menu of Beaujolais-inspired cuisine
Wine pairings selected in the Beaujolais tradition
